How to Layer Your Kids Clothes In The Winter Season
Cold weather calls for cozy and comfortable wear. One of the biggest struggles of going to a snowy retreat with your family is packing clothes for your kids. After all, to make sure your kids don’t fall sick and stay warm during the cold season, there’s a lot you need to take into account while picking out clothes for them. Despite having countless options at your disposal, you need to mix and match winter clothes for kids for proper layering. In this blog, we are going to cover all the essential things you must keep in mind while dressing your kids for the cold, snowy season.
How to Dress in Layers… It’s all about the layers
Not sure how to layer your kid’s clothes in the winter? No need to worry, we have compiled this guide to help you understand the right way of layering kids' clothes without making them look shabby. Let’s have a look.
1. Base Layer
To keep your little one warm at all times, it is important that you choose the right base layer, since this helps the most with insulation and wicking moisture away. Look for wool or polyester base layers that fit tightly against the body. Materials such as cotton should be avoided at all costs since these absorb moisture and take a lot of time to dry. Other than that, ideally the base layer should not be very thick because that does not leave room for the mid and outer layer.
2. Middle Layers
Once you are done with the base layer, the next step is to add the middle layer. Middle layer can be any kids sweatshirt, hoodie, thermal etc., paired with pants or leggings. The main purpose of the middle layer is to retain body heat. Other than that, the middle layer should also be easy to pull on and off. The key to layering your kid’s clothes is to ensure that your little one stays warm without making the clothing too constricted for movement. Therefore, always make sure to leave enough room for movement.
3. Outer Layers
The best thing about outer layers is that these can be added and subtracted according to the need. The main purpose of outer layers is to keep you dry, especially if you live in an area where it rains or snows often. For that purpose, you can look for a parachute jacket or a fleece jacket. Other than that, you can also add a pair of fleece pants to your kids' attire if it's too cold outside. On the other hand, if the temperature is mildly cold then a coat or a sweater would do. The right way to layer your kid’s clothes is to move from the thinnest layer to the thickest. With proper layering, your kid wouldn’t need a large puffy winter coat.
4. Winter Shoes
Once the clothes layering is done, the next step is to choose a cozy pair of shoes and socks for your little one. Ideally wool socks work as a great option for keeping a kid's feet warm. As for shoes, you can opt for a comfortable pair of kids winter shoes such as moccasins or sneakers - or any other warm footwear that can be worn with socks. Moreover, you should look for shoes that come with a breathable upper material and comfortable soles that won’t slip on snow.
5. Caps, Beanies, and scarves
The last step to layering your kids outfit is to finish with a warm scarf and beanie to keep your little one’s neck and head warm. For added warmth, wool beanies and scarves are the best option. Other than that, before letting your little one out to play make sure he/she wears a pair of wool gloves as well.
